Walk into any family gathering in Peshawar today and the talk is as likely to be about health as about the food. People are tired of feeling sluggish by mid-afternoon and want to eat better without giving up our own cooking. That is where the idea of the organic superfood in Pakistan comes in: simple, natural foods our elders already used, rather than imported powders. This guide looks at two of them, raw honey and shilajit resin, and what you can reasonably expect from them.
- "Superfood" is a marketing word, not a medical one. It just means a nutrient-dense, minimally processed food.
- Raw honey and shilajit are traditionally used and may support general wellbeing as part of a balanced diet. Neither cures or prevents disease.
- Buy shilajit as resin, follow the label for the amount, and check with a doctor first.
Why more people are going back to traditional foods
Processed snacks and sweet drinks are easy and cheap, and many of us notice the energy dip that follows. Going back to simpler foods, like ghee in the kitchen, honey in tea and dry fruits in winter, is not a new idea. It is mostly a matter of choosing quality where it matters and knowing what to check when you buy.
What is a "superfood", really?
There is no official definition. The label is usually used for foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals or other plant compounds. No single food replaces a varied diet, sleep and exercise. Treat any product that promises to "reset" your health with caution.
1. Raw honey: the everyday option
Raw honey is not heated or heavily filtered, so it keeps more of its natural character and sometimes sets in cold weather. People traditionally stir a spoon into warm water or morning tea. Our honey range includes raw Sidr (beri) honey. Remember that honey is still sugar, so keep portions modest.
2. Shilajit: a traditional mountain resin
Shilajit is a tar-like natural resin that seeps from rock layers in high mountain ranges, including the Himalayas. It has a long history of traditional use in South Asia. It contains humic and fulvic compounds, and it is sold for energy and general wellbeing, but the research is limited and it is not a cure for tiredness or any illness.
- Pro tip: look for resin. Powder or pills are harder to judge by eye.
- Use only the amount on the product label, dissolved in warm water or milk.
- Fake shilajit is common. Our guide to fake vs original shilajit shows simple home checks.
- You can see ours on the Himalayan shilajit resin page.
Why buy from Desi Nectar?
Adulteration (milawat) is the first worry we hear from customers, and it is the main reason we put so much detail in our product pages and guides. We cannot give you a lab certificate we do not have, so we focus on what you can check yourself: the form of the product, the label, and how the seller answers your questions. You can message us on WhatsApp any time. We deliver across Pakistan from Peshawar, and the shipping and delivery page has the details.
How to start
Begin small. Add a teaspoon of raw honey to your morning tea (let it cool a little first), keep a balanced plate, and walk after dinner. If you want to try shilajit, follow the pack instructions and talk to your doctor first.
This is general information, not medical advice. Pregnant or nursing women, children, and people with iron, blood, heart or kidney conditions should check with a doctor before using shilajit or any supplement. Never give honey to infants under 12 months.
