Saffron (Zafran)
Saffron, known at home as zafran or kesar, is the dried red stigma of the Crocus sativus flower. Each flower gives only three threads, picked by hand, which is why saffron is sold by the gram. Desi Nectar keeps one grade: Herat Super Negin saffron, all-red threads in a 1 gram jar, from Herat, Afghanistan, as stated on the listing. Soak 3 to 4 threads in warm milk or water for kesar doodh, kehwa, kheer or biryani.
