How to check honey at home

Real honey has a layered taste and a thick pour. Raw honey may crystallise in cold weather, and that is normal. A drop on your thumb stays together if the honey is thick, whereas thin syrup runs. These are indicators only, and only a lab can confirm purity.

Storage

Use an airtight glass jar in a cool, dry place and always a dry spoon.

Who should be careful

Do not give honey to infants under 12 months. Honey is sugar, so if you have diabetes, ask your doctor before making it part of your diet.
